The Hand Therapy Group are a team of three incredible women all with a shared passion for helping people. As hand therapists they do this by aiding their community in returning to life as normal after injury. Sometimes, this may simply be to better their patients quality of life while managing an ongoing upper-limb affliction. With two Auckland clinics, Nikki, Emma and Laura sure are doing good for their community!

THTG had a business goal to work smarter not harder. So when working together on their website we took away some of the traditional manual processes and utilised their online platform to take care of collecting patient referrals and manage bookings, allowing them more time to attend to the need’s of their patients with a high level of quality and care.

I’m super excited for these ladies and can’t wait to see how their website helps to grow their business!

Q+A with Emma from THTG

WHAT WAS THE MAIN TURNING POINT THAT LEAD YOU TO STARTING YOUR SMALL BUSINESS?

I had worked at the same company for 8 years, and while I loved it, I felt like I needed something more. After I returned from maternity leave with my 2nd baby, I felt that need even more! I was ready for the challenge of setting up and running my own business. The timing was just right (well, as right as it could ever be).

WHAT HAS BEEN THE HARDEST LESSON YOU’VE LEARNED (SO FAR) IN YOUR BUSINESS?

People are great and so helpful when you are signing up / coming on board with their company. But once they have you hooked, the customer service is often non-existent. It’s so frustrating! We had an ongoing problem with a certain large company (that shall remain nameless) and it got to the point we were actually losing potential customers because of it.

WHAT IS ONE THING YOU WISH SOMEONE WOULD HAVE TOLD YOU STARTING OUT?

Anything would have been good! We had a contract we needed to secure before we could start operating. The guidelines for parts of it were somewhat loose and there was literally no one we could go to for help or answers. But we got there in the end.

WHAT HAS BEEN THE BEST PART SO FAR IN YOUR JOURNEY?

The lifestyle is just great, we all love it. And we aren’t even getting paid yet so it has nothing to do with the financial aspect. Being able to go to the gym at lunch time, finish early to go to my sons school activities or meet tradies at home any time of the day is great. We will REALLY love it once we start seeing the dollar dollar bills.

WHAT IS YOUR ULTIMATE GOAL FOR YOUR BUSINESS?

To have our own clinic spaces within the next few years with staff on-board that share our vision and values. Community is important to us so we would love to be in a position to give back when we can. More time working on the business and less time in the business would also be amazing. We are all ultimately doing this to be able to spend more time with our families.

WHY DO YOU DO WHAT YOU DO?

I am definitely a people person, not an office person - I would go crazy sitting in front of a computer all day.  That was evident with those tests we had to do back in high school that pointed you in the right career direction. I love helping people and seeing them achieve their goals and things they thought they might never do again.
